Brooke & Richard's Wedding at St. Peter's Church and the Peabody Essex Museum

“I was workin’ as a waitress in a cocktail bar… that much is true.. la la la… .” I’m dating myself by quoting early 80′s music. Actually Brooke was managing a modern Italian furniture store when Richard walked in to buy some furniture for his pad. She noticed he was wearing funky sneakers… the kind usually worn by fashionista European kinda dudes. She liked that. They chatted. He bought furniture. A few days later he came back and asked her out. The rest is… well you see below.

Brooke and Richard were married at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cambridge and had their reception at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. A few notes about their wedding: they designed the invitations, programs, and wedding logo themselves. Richard wore an antique Rolex that he picked up in London. Guests received Taza chocolates (from Somerville) as favors, and an early Parisian jazz band serenaded guests during dinner.

Meghan + Keith: Boston Engagement Photography

I’m a little behind with my blog posts. Not for lack of photographic activity, but because I’ve been doing so much photographing! I’ve been shooting and processing and meeting with clients every day. Yes I’ll admit I get a little tired working 15 hours a day, but it has been so worth it. Starting my own business, doing what I love, and meeting nice people like Meghan and Keith.

I spent a Saturday morning photographing Meghan and Keith in Marblehead, Mass. “Old Town” Marblehead has so much early American history, it seemed an appropriate place to be on the 4th of July. I am so, so excited to photograph their wedding at Star of the Sea and Hamilton Hall in Marblehead and Salem this September.

Engaged: Dez + John Pt. 2

This past Saturday I photographed Dez and John’s engagement session at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. Technically, the museum doesn’t allow engagement photography, but they made an exception for Dez and John. Not only did they have their first date at the museum, but it’s also the place where John proposed to Dez! I was  touched by their story about how John coordinated his proposal with the museum, and arranged to have the Yin Yu Tang house all to themselves when he popped the question.

Dez made me laugh: “I thought it was kind of strange that we were the only ones in the house, and especially when there was a scrabble board on the bed in the museum. I was like ‘they played scrabble in the old days?’” But on the scrabble board John had spelled out his proposal: Dez will you marry me?

The more that I photograph people, the more I realize that what I’m really interested is the relationships between them. I think that photography can capture some of that. And that’s why I didn’t pose Dez and John too much. With the exception of some minor direction, I just let them be themselves. What’s captured is probably more honest than if I had given them tons of direction. Anyway, that’s just kind of my approach to engagement photography.

Dez and John’s wedding is this July in Boston.
