I woke up this past Sunday morning and as usual, started perusing some of my favorite photographers’ blogs. After staring at so many gorgeous wedding photographs for over an hour, I was like “Damn! I need to kick it up a notch!” Really, I am very critical of myself and I am always trying to learn new tricks and gather inspiration that will help me become a better photographer. So I started the day with quite an attitude and was being pretty hard on myself.

But I knew what I had to do… break out a few techie tools and push myself to be creative and freaking WORK IT! Luckily for me, Nisa and Will gave me some great material to work with.

We started out at their house and I photographed while they got ready. They were totally chilled and having a relaxed day while they got ready in separate areas of the house (so as not to see each other until they were dressed).

Nisa’s Vera Wang dress was gorgeous… and I took some ring pics with their funky wedding invitations.

I took these photos moments after they had their “first look” on the front porch. When I walked up to their house I was like “I gotta photograph them on this porch.” It was just so lovely.

We stopped by Larz Anderson Park for some portraits before the ceremony. I had scouted the park before I went to their house. We had heard that there was a car show that day and I wanted to spec out some locations away from the model-t’s. We ended up taking these photos in the community garden area. Yes, we crashed  the vegetable patch.

Their wedding ceremony and reception was at Boston’s Beehive. Talk about a funky wedding venue!

There was one formal toast following the ceremony, which was delivered by their close friend. It pays to be a talented musician with lots of talented musician friends. Because at the end of his speech this dude broke into one of the most amazing renditions of Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness.” Wow. It was the best wedding toast I’ve ever heard. I mean, what better relationship advice is there than that song?

Their wedding cake was Croque en Bouche. Which apparently is the official wedding cake of France. Nisa filled me in. I didn’t know about this tradition, but hey you learn new things every day. I am learning a lot about weddings…

I saw “Slingerland” and I had to photograph this vintage kit. My boyfriend plays Slingerland too, and has too many drums… please someone come and take some of them away. And of course, anything with Serge Gainsbourg I have to photograph.

I don’t know if you can tell in this photo, but they had Paul Revere-style chalices for the flowers. Paul Revere… very “Boston.”

Their wedding band, “The Prenups” were fabu! I think they were playing a David Bowie song when I took the dancing pics below. Special thanks to my assistant, Li Ward, who helped light these images.

Of course, Will performed too!

It was a lovely, wonderful day and night. I have the best clients.
