Caroline + Kuan Ju’s Cambridge City Hall Wedding

Caroline and Kuan Ju’s wedding at City Hall in Cambridge was my first wedding of 2010. There were eight guests, and they came from the West Coast and England to witness the small ceremony and beautiful day.

What makes a great wedding? All you really need are two people willing to commit to each other, the few people who care most about them, an officiant to marry them, and a lot of love. I love small weddings!

Arlene + Jeff's Cape Cod Wedding: The Wequassett Inn

Arlene and Jeff were recently married at the Wequassett Inn in Chatham, MA. You might remember their engagement session from a few months back. Here are a few of my favorite photos from their wedding day.

The staff at the Wequassett Inn really had their act together. Kalson, the site coordinator, was just so amazing and organized. He was super helpful and actually helped me coordinate Jeff and Arlene’s first look, not to mention numerous other logistics that day. If we only had someone like Kalson at every wedding!

When Arlene told me that she was going to perform a hula dance at the wedding, it didn’t really hit me. I didn’t realize how beautiful it was going to be. I have to say, I was truly mesmerized!

Angela + Colin's North Shore Wedding

I recently photographed Angela and Colin’s wedding in Newburyport, Mass. Their ceremony was held at the First Religious Society Unitarian Church and the reception was at The Phoenix Room.

Angela and I are both really into ghosts and anything spooky. I think we discovered this when I posted a facebook update about watching Ghost Hunters. When she told me that she and Colin would be getting ready at the reportedly haunted Garrison Inn, I was pretty excited! But alas … I’ve scanned these “getting ready” photos for orbs and shadow people and haven’t found anything suspicious.:)

This is the only time where I’ve ever used a guest’s lens to photograph at a wedding. I happened to “know” one of the groomsmen through my flickr account. What a small world! Anyway, he lent me his 50mm macro and I used it to take the ring photo below.

Lauren & Jeff's Boston Wedding: MIT Chapel & The Living Room

I always wanted to photograph a wedding ceremony at the MIT Chapel. What can you say about this building which was designed by Eero Saarinen? It has that mid-20th century/futuristic style which I absolutely love.  Damn, there was so much beautiful design in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Sarah + Oren at Moraine Farm, Beverly, MA: North Shore Wedding Photography

A few weeks ago I photographed Sarah and Oren’s wedding at Moraine Farm on Boston’s North Shore in Beverly. The grounds were landscaped by Frederick Law Olmstead –  the same guy who designed Central Park, the Niagara Falls Reserve, and the grounds of the U.S. Capital to name a few. So needless to say the landscape at Moraine is absolutely beautiful.

For those of you living in Boston, you know that the weather this summer has been pretty dreary. I think the average temperature for June was something like 60 degrees, and it was the dimmest June on record in more than 100 years. We had planned to do portraits outdoors before the ceremony, but of course it was raining. But Sarah and Oren had such a good attitude — nothing was going to ruin their plans. So we grabbed some umbrellas and headed out. I’m so glad we did!

I don’t know why, but I am fascinated with images of people walking or turning away.

But don’t worry, I manage to get some photos of people facing the camera too.

I have to say this was some of the best and most creative food that I’ve seen (and eaten!) at a wedding. I mean, Ne Me Quitte Pas Catering (my fave)? Blue Ribbon BBQ? Come on! And one of the best touches was that Sarah and Oren recently made their own wine vintage, which they served at the wedding.

Amy + David: Boston Engagement Photography

Last night I photographed Amy and David at their apartment and in Harvard Sq.  I loved hanging out with these two — at times it was almost hard to get through their shoot because we couldn’t stop talking! Amy reminds me very much of my best friend, Sarah (you’ll see her wedding in a few weeks). And David is a printmaker, which is nuts because I graduated from college with a degree in printmaking and I don’t think I’ve run into a printmaker since. Well, maybe I’ve just been traveling in the wrong circles.

After the shoot we stood on the street talking for what seemed like a long time. We talked about Andy Warhol and Obama and Cambridge and 80’s movies and evangelicals I don’t know what else. I could have stood there longer, but it was time to go home and attack my photography to-do list.

Amy and David’s wedding is this October at the Willowdale Estate in Topsfield, Mass. More photos then…

Meghan + Keith: Boston Engagement Photography

I’m a little behind with my blog posts. Not for lack of photographic activity, but because I’ve been doing so much photographing! I’ve been shooting and processing and meeting with clients every day. Yes I’ll admit I get a little tired working 15 hours a day, but it has been so worth it. Starting my own business, doing what I love, and meeting nice people like Meghan and Keith.

I spent a Saturday morning photographing Meghan and Keith in Marblehead, Mass. “Old Town” Marblehead has so much early American history, it seemed an appropriate place to be on the 4th of July. I am so, so excited to photograph their wedding at Star of the Sea and Hamilton Hall in Marblehead and Salem this September.

anaica & harry, boston wedding photography

Anaica & Harry’s wedding is coming up this Saturday! This should be fun, especially since they’ll be changing into traditional Ghana wedding attire part-way into the reception. I’ll be posting some preview photos here early next week!
