My mother called shortly after I met with Brandi and Vipul for their pre-wedding planning meeting. “I was just talking with new favorite couple!” “Don’t you say that about all your clients?” she said. I had to laugh because it’s true. I get really excited when I talk with couples about their weddings. But from our first meeting I knew that Brandi and Vipul — who seemed so kind and creative and full of life — were going to have a remarkable wedding.
The wedding ceremony took place on a very hot day at
Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island. The couple and their friends made the fabric bench covers and program fans. Aisle, candle flowers and tossed flowers by
Flowering Tree Botanicals on Etsy. Ganesh Elephant by
Victoria’s Art Gallery.
The festivities began with the Groom’s Procession. Being in Rhode Island, they couldn’t have the traditional elephant to carry Vipul. Instead, the groom entered on a bicycle pedicab decorated with flowers and pedaled by a groomsman. Friends and family danced, spun and sang around him. What a joyful way to enter your wedding! Below, Vipul and his mother pray as the procession begins. Pedicab and flowers by
Nelson’s Little Shop of Flowers.
Mid-way through the procession Vipul got out of the cab and danced with family and friends. I love the photo of him and his mother below, just after they danced.
As the wedding ceremony began, friends held an “antarpat” in front of Vipul. When Brandi and her parents came up the aisle, they raised the antarpat so that he couldn’t see her approaching.
Brandi’s parents offered her hands under the antarpat to Vipul.
Keeping with Hindu customs, the couple recited seven vows to each other as they circled the sacred fire. Brandi and Vipul’s first six vows were traditional Hindu vows, and they wrote the seventh vow.
Below, Vipul places the Mangalsutra necklace on Brandi. The Mangalsutra is a Hindu token of love and respect.
Brandi worked with Val of
Upoppy to design and create her wedding dress. Below, you can see some of the dress details.
Brandi is Creole and from Mississippi, and the couple wanted to include some wedding traditions from her side of the family as well. They ended the ceremony by “jumping the broom.”
Brandi’s henna was done by
Henna by Heather.
BlumeBloom on Etsy created the hair fascinator, to which Brandi added some custom details. Earrings by
Brigite.
The wedding reception was held at
CAV Restaurant in Providence. Below is the restaurant’s courtyard at Imperial Place.
Guests signed the couple’s wedding guest book on a vintage typewriter. Arielle Zibrak’s multimedia painting featured many of the couple’s wedding details and wedding story.
Ari Rosenfield of
Beat Train Productions DJ’d. Special thanks to
Jocelyn Dunn, who coordinated the wedding day and made sure that that everything ran smoothly.
CAV Restaurant is next door to the store where I used to purchase (or should I say my parents purchased!) art supplies when I was in college: Jerry’s Art Supply Warehouse. I thought it was cool that CAV used a paint palette to serve the h’ors d’oeuvres.
What a day! What a wedding! Thank you so much to Brandi and Vipul for letting me photograph and share your beautiful day.
