Boston Wedding Coordinators: Pink Orchid Weddings

A few weeks ago I met Emilie of Pink Orchid Weddings. We got together at a my “office” (Starbucks!), and talked about starting our wedding businesses over the past year. After learning about the DOC (day of coordination) services that Pink Orchid provides, I felt that I just had to share them with readers!

So yesterday I met up with Emilie and her Pink Orchid partner, Fiona, for a fun photo shoot. The pics are below, as well as my little interview about their business.

Oh, and don’t mind my new logo… I know I’m kind of mixing and matching logos at this point, but I just had to see how it looks on my blog photos!

How and why you started Pink Orchid?

Both of us had worked on non-profit events together before, and knew that event management, coming up with creative details, and dealing with clients was our forte.  After starting to help friends with their weddings, and after planning our own respective weddings, we realized that there was a need for a day of coordination service and thought that it was a great fit for us.  We started Pink Orchid Weddings in the summer of 2008, specializing in that “DOC” service, to help couples who have already booked the majority of their vendors, but just need a professional to manage everything on the day of the wedding and take care of all of the little details.

What services do you provide for your clients?

The Blush Package is our main Day of Coordination package.  It covers items like creating a detailed timeline of the day, providing checklists to keep the couple on track, directing the ceremony processional, being the point of contact for vendors, and setting up all details like place cards, menu cards, and the guest book.  We also provide some a la carte services like custom invitations, vendor research, favor packaging, and other wedding stationery.

What do you think is the value that you provide wedding couples?

Many times, couples may think that they can just ask a bridesmaid or a cousin to help set up the details and make sure the florist brought the correct number of centerpieces.  Even if the designated friend or family member does a great job, they will most likely not be able to enjoy the wedding day.  A day of coordinator will take care of everything, and address any unexpected issues that may arise.  This all contributes to a stress-free day for the couple, and we think that’s the most important thing!

How do you work with your clients?

We offer complimentary consultations to anyone who is interested in our services.  From the time of booking, we send clients monthly checklists, and then approximately one month before the wedding, we have two in-person meetings to go over their entire wedding day, and meet at the wedding venue if available.  Most of our communication with clients is via email, and we feel like most of them definitely prefer it.

Anything else you’d like to share?

We both absolutely love weddings, and the special moments that come with the big day: the joy that you can see on the couple’s faces or the tears from a bride’s father.  Couples can spend months or even years planning their wedding day, and we just want to make sure that all of that hard work is executed perfectly.  We always feel so honored to be part of a wedding, and really enjoy working with couples from the end of their planning to the big celebration of love.
